Roof Repair, Restoration and Replacement in Salt Lake County, Utah
Salt Lake County has more homes than any other Utah county, and a wide range of ages, elevations and storm histories. It is a service area for The NuRoof Guys, not an office.
Utah’s biggest housing market
QuickFacts puts Salt Lake County at about 1.22 million people (July 2025 estimate). The ACS (2020–2024) counts about 449,662 housing units, with a median year built of 1986. By our arithmetic, about 43% of units were built before 1980, about 18% before 1960 and about 7% before 1940, while about 32% were built in 2000 or later. About 66% of occupied homes are owner-occupied. That spread means roof age in the county runs from original 1950s shingles to subdivisions only a few years old.
Valley floor, benches and the point of the mountain
NOAA’s 1991–2020 normals for the Salt Lake City airport (about 4,225 feet) record about 15.5 inches of precipitation and 51.9 inches of snow a year, about 112 days at or below 32°F and about 62 days at 90°F or more. The Draper–Point of the Mountain station (about 4,506 feet) records about 116 freezing days but about 78 days at 90°F or more and about 13 days at 100°F or more, noticeably hotter. See our pages for the Salt Lake area, Sandy and Draper.
Two 2020 events
The March 18, 2020 Magna earthquake (magnitude 5.7) was in this county; the University of Utah Seismograph Stations reported damage including fallen chimneys. Six months later, NOAA’s Storm Events database recorded a historic east wind event in the Salt Lake Valley on September 8, 2020, with a peak gust of 89 mph at the University of Utah, 77 mph at the Salt Lake City airport and more than 180,000 power outages along the Wasatch Front.
